Farmacia SS Annunziata 1561 – Discovery Set

I liked all of them, but there are a couple that I can truly say that I definitely enjoyed to the point that I would happily wear myself.

As you already know, I tend to write about those fragrances that truly stir some feelings within my being so, without further ado, I will start presenting you the selected 9 samples that I truly and deeply admired from Farmacia SS Annunziata.

Oriental Casbah

Starts off with the memory of wet soil after rain. I would be tempted to say a damp lemon, with honey dripping from it, but then I am hit by the earthy patchouli. Imagine you dig out a scoop of wet soil from somewhere near an old tree root. The damp, mossy/earthy smell slowly rounds off with some sandalwood that softens the edges. The smell remains (as very well described by the brand) “primordial”. The Patchouli is the one responsible with this feeling but the hints of citrus are clearly there.

Royal Anbar

Royal Anbar instantly attracted me to the warm, nostalgic note of the amber it lists. In combination with the nectary note of Helichrysum, the amber is even further, in my opinion, pushed full frontal and on display. The nectar of the Helichrysum complements the amber very nicely while Jasmine gives this warm nectar/ambery note a floral edge and also Thyme, in the opening, creates a tender, herbaceous presence. As the fragrance settles, we are left with the hint of nostalgia. I think of someone traveling with the Orient Express who is wearing this scent – red velvet chairs and sofas and vintage lamps with golden insertions that decorate the old wagons.

Cuoio Toscano

 Oh, wow. This is quite a head turner. Judging by the name “cuoio toscano” I was expecting a strong blast of leather (judging by the term “cuoio” which means “leather”) So clearly “Tuscan Leather” made me think it’s all about that – but to my surprise I am greeted by a bergamot / geranium elemi, that smells absolutely wonderful. Clearly there is a backdrop of leather in this – but it is a mere base that offers a spotlight to the before-mentioned notes of elemi, geranium, bergamot. Labdanum and benzoin peak their head through as we are making our way towards the dry down where saffron greets us with a hint of sweetness. A really elegant concoction. Great one!

Oud e Rosa Nera

A rose / oud / patchouli olfactive experience that reminds of the orient in a way. A very well balanced fragrance that doesn’t go wild on the roses, but holds a very good balance between the oudiness and the sweetness of the rose. It’s a classic profile so it is hard not to like this one. 

Whiskey Nobile

Now this is my absolute favorite of them all. Honestly. The Whiskey smells so damn refined and the entire fragrance is so masterfully blended that I cannot resist the smell of this one. Such a classy feeling, warm, slightly spicy and just the right amount of sweetness makes this glass of whiskey one to savor and enjoy in the best company. The cocoa powder DOES come out and I think that is exactly the note that pulls this fragrance out from the ocean of other boozy scents I tried. Yes it’s a boozy scent but it is different from most you have tried, You have to get your nose on this one if you’re a fan of this profile. Great work on this. 

Via dell’Incenso

If you’re used to the smell of incense in or around sacred places, it is hard not to be instantly teleported in a holy space when smelling this one. I have a pretty personal experience with incense and it has a special meaning to me. It’s a smell that instantly calms my mind and gives me thought of equilibrium, peace, solace. This is how I feel when I try Via dell’Incenso. Spiritual, I would characterize this one. Helps me get back in touch with myself. 

Anniversary 

Nutmeg, Cloves, Cinnamon – what does it smell like? You got that right. It’s Christmas! Right about now is the time for this lovely, joyful, calming fragrance that puts me right in the spirit of the holidays. Anniversary – quite the fitting name for this one. The brand launched this one on the occasion of 460 years anniversary of the Farmacia SS Annunziata brand. Maybe if I were from that part of the world, Florence, I’d identify more of the Florentine spices but to me, this is instant Christmas in a bottle. And one of the best experiences of this kind so far. I love it and I actually wore this sample on Christmas day at the end of this past year. Just in time!

Giardino Dell’Iris

A real nice Iris experience for the fans – more on the cold iris side than on than on the powedery / lipsticky aspect of it. Iris is a love and hate for me, and this one, in late dry down, falls in my love category. I think it’s an amazing fragrance to use in a layering as it’s a pure iris smell that would blend great with maybe a leathery fragrance that is all about the bold leather scent. Even if used solo, Giardino dell’Iris offers a great, refreshing, cold / clean / iris experience that is quite memorable and nostalgic.
